  • The UN's response to the Arab Spring and the rise of Political Islam.
  • Supporting the demands from across the region for more open societies and politics.
  • Distinguishing between the situations in Libya and Syria versus Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
  • The role of regional organizations in supporting peaceful change and holding their members accountable.

Ambassador Lyall Grant has served as the UK Permanent Representative to the UN since the Fall of 2009. With past high-profile Diplomatic postings in Africa and Pakistan, this experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of the political and social inner workings of these regions.
