Welsh Development Agency: New Wales Millennium Center opening in
the Fall
Designed by architect Jonathan Adams using a variety of Welsh materials,
the Wales Millennium Centre promises to become as architecturally iconic
an image as the Sydney Opera House. Situated on the Cardiff Bay
waterfront, the Centre will be home to seven exciting and diverse cultural
organizations, including the internationally renowned Welsh National Opera
as well as the Welsh youth organization, Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Its
1900-seater main lyric auditorium will be a venue for 'conventional' arts
endeavors like musical theater, international opera, ballet, dance and
festivals and the Center will also house 'non traditional' enterprises
like The Touch Trust, which uses music, movement and massage to aid in the
life development of people with profound disabilities.
The Centre opens on November 26, 2004, with 60 hours of eclectic
performances. The program of Welsh and international stars will be
produced by Bryn Terfel and will include an appearance from Bryn himself.
Tickets will go on sale in mid May. In the meantime, you can be put on the
Centre’s mailing list to receive information and you can also sponsor a
seat or a slate in the building for a reasonable amount of money and make
a lasting impression on this center which has been described as
“Unmistakably Welsh, internationally outstanding”
Further information on all the above can be found on the Wales Millennium
Centre’s website: www.wmc.org.uk.
