Film on architect Sir John Soane on April 21st
Sir John Soanešs Museum Foundation, in association with the New York
School of Interior Design, will present Soane at the Movies: Entertaining
Mr. Soane on Wednesday, April 21, at 6 P. M. The one-hour documentary
tells the story of the great Georgian architect, Sir John Soane
(1753-1837), one of the most important innovators in the history of
British architecture. Soanešs buildings include most notably the Bank of
England, and his own residence and museum at Lincolnšs Inn Fields, the
Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Law Courts at Westminster, and Pitzhanger
Manor-House. The creative use of light and space in his own work and his
exceptional collection of architectural drawings and models continue to
inspire many architects and designers today.
The film uses
dramatic reconstructions featuring Corin Redgrave as Soane and Sam West as
his student George Wightwick to tell the story of this visionary
archtitect. The film also gives commentary by contemporary architects and
artists. The screening will be followed by a reception, which includes a
private viewing of the New York School of Interior Designšs exhibition,
Albert Hadley: Drawings and the Design Process. Tickets are $50
per person ($20 for students), and may be purchased at the door. The film
will begin at 6 p.m. at the New York School of Interior Design, 170 East
70th Street. Proceeds will benefit the annual Soane Foundation Fellowship.
