Welsh Development Agency - Welsh actor, Rhys Ifans, stars in a new
movie from Lionsgate Films entitled Dannie Deckchair.
Now playing in NY and LA. Opening August 27 elsewhere.
An Australian cement truck driver, Danny (Rhys Ifans), decides to try to
escape his life in the drabness of the city after a fight with his
girlfriend (Justine Clarke) prevents him from taking a long-awaited
vacation. Tying large helium-filled balloons to his deckchair (ie, a lawn
chair), Danny sails away into the sky, where a surprise thunderstorm sends
him hurtling out over the Outback, eventually finding a small town to
settle down in incognito, while the media whips itself into a flurry about
his disappearance. Reinventing himself in the small northern town of
Clarence, Danny soon falls in love with the town's only parking cop,
Glenda (Miranda Otto).
Danny Deckchair is only a trifle, but it has its charms, most of them
residing in the low-key performances of Mr. Ifans and Ms. Otto, who make
an attractive pair of shy soul mates. Isn't it nice to imagine that true
love can literally drop out of the sky and land in your yard? Stephen

From a logical standpoint, the new Rhys Ifans comedy “Danny Deckchair”
makes absolutely no sense. The premise is preposterous, the situations are
silly and the finale is fairly fallow. Yet the film still employs a warmth
of spirit and enjoyment that is infectious, making the Australian import a
simple and joyous affair. Filmjerk.com |
