July 23, 2002 LONDON BritishAmerican
Business Inc Breakfast with Governor Bush of Florida
Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, this morning addressed over 200 guests at a
special breakfast hosted by BritishAmerican Business Inc (BritishAmerican Business), the
leading transatlantic business organisation. The breakfast was held at
Claridge’s hotel in central London and the Governor was welcomed by
Michael Kirkwood, Chairman of BritishAmerican Business and Managing Director and UK Country
Corporate Officer, Citigroup..
Florida’s 43rd Governor, Jeb Bush, in town to inaugurate the Florida
Pavilion at the Farnborough International Air Show and to participate in a
high-level business conference at Chatham House, used the opportunity to
address BritishAmerican Business members and to emphasise the superb business opportunities
Florida has to offer. In addition to the well-developed tourism and
agricultural sectors, and a broadening economy, the State of Florida now
leads the US in job growth and has expanded into the hi-tech sector.
At the breakfast, Governor Bush promoted Florida to European business
people as the “gateway to Latin America”. As the Governor explained: “If
you look at a map and see where Florida resides – geography has propelled
us into the rest of the world.” Florida’s unique positioning means not
only being influenced by Latin America and the Caribbean, but also playing
an active role in their economic development. “We’re the bankers, the
doctors, the lawyers, the accountants, the customers’ brokers for this
gigantic region. And that provides us a niche that I think will bode us
well going forward,” said Bush.
The event was sponsored by New Horizons
Florida and UPS
