BritishAmerican Business Says “Thank You” to Sponsors and Friends

Date:  July 23, 2003

As a thank you to all those member companies who have supported BritishAmerican Business over the last year, we hosted a reception in the College Garden at Westminster Abbey on 10 July 2003. More than 70 guests were treated to an evening tour and reception in the private gardens of the Abbey. The International Herald Tribune and Riggs Bank get a special vote of thanks as regular sponsors but also for sponsoring our thank you for sponsors!

BritishAmerican Business is extremely grateful to all those members who support us every year, whether that be by sponsoring events, providing in-kind services and goods, providing venues for events and Forum meetings, or helping in any other way, with the 70-plus events in our annual events calendar in London. Last year, we held 72 events – not including Forum planning meetings – and had nearly 5,500 people in attendance.

The evening also served as an opportunity to bid farewell to some of our friends at the US Embassy, the Honourable Glyn Davies, Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr David Katz, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs and Colonel Joe Neimeyer, Chief of the Office of Defence Co-operation, who will all be leaving their posts at the Embassy this summer. We will miss them, but look forward to working with their successors and, of course, the Ambassador, who also attended to help us wish them well.

Of course, the setting was also part of the evening. Westminster Abbey was primarily built between the 13th and 16th centuries, is within a Grade One World Heritage site and is still home to many great events in British life. It has been the setting for every Coronation since 1066 and for numerous other Royal occasions.

Westminster Abbey is planning to take an exhibition to the US of archives, many previously unseen by the visiting public. This will run in conjunction with the Patron’s Scheme currently underway.
