Deloitte Releases Research on Ethics and Compliance Programs

Date:  March 11, 2004

Business Ethics and Compliance in the Sarbanes-Oxley Era - A Survey by Deloitte and Corporate Board Member Magazine

Corporate ethics is taking on increased prominence at U.S. public companies with the mandates of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 406. The new mandates require public companies to institute a code of ethics to promote honest and ethical conduct. Even if your organization already has a program in place, on going management and monitoring is necessary to help achieve success.

The attached survey (PDF), jointly conducted by Deloitte and Corporate Board Member magazine, discusses the various aspects of corporate ethics programs from top executives at U.S. public companies. Although many companies have a code of ethics, the survey shows mixed results regarding the level of adherence to the code. This summary not only highlights the questions and responses, but also provides Deloitte's views and comments.
