The U.S. Election happened. It was closer than expected. President Trump has yet to concede. But things have already moved on.

Brad Staples, Chief Executive Officer, APCO

Brad Staples is chief executive officer of APCO Worldwide. He leads the firm’s business and nearly 800 employees who are based in more than 30 markets around the world. Mr. Staples has spent two decades building APCO’s business and developing client service teams around the world, having previously served as president international and chair of global development. He first joined APCO in 1996, where he helped lead the firm’s European business in Brussels before going on to head the EMEA region.

Throughout his career at APCO, Mr. Staples has devised and conducted reputation and communication programs for multinational companies and interest groups across a broad range of industries and policy areas. He has developed public affairs campaigns and led investment promotion, information and reputation assignments for numerous corporations, governments, and political leaders.

Mr. Staples also built APCO’s global antitrust and competition practice. Working in close collaboration with leading law firms and investment banks, he has managed global client M&A and antitrust communication campaigns and has assisted multinational companies from many industry and service sectors in achieving their communication objectives around major cases.

Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Staples worked in a consultancy in London and was managing director of an EU affairs consultancy in Brussels. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in politics and government. A British national, he also speaks French and Italian.

Orit Frenkel, Former Senior Manager for GE Global Government Affairs

Dr. Orit Frenkel, member of APCO’s International Advisory Council, is the founder and President of Frenkel Strategies, a consulting firm specializing in government relations and policy issues in Asia and the CIS countries, trade policy, investment and market access issues, as well as training programs for foreign government officials.

Prior to starting Frenkel Strategies, Orit was the Senior Manager for GE Global Government Affairs for 26 years. In that position, she was responsible for advising the GE businesses on government relations, trade, investment and CSR issues in ASEAN, North and Central Asia, as well as in the CIS countries. Orit’s extensive experience working with US and foreign governments, as well as with a variety of stakeholders, resulted in billions of dollars of GE sales. She worked with U.S. and multilateral financing institutions to obtain financing for GE’s transactions.

Orit led GE’s policy and advocacy on TPP, KORUS, Russia and China WTO accession, Uruguay Round, NAFTA and other trade policy issues. She coordinated GE’s policy and strategy development, developed messaging and led coordination and consensus building among stakeholders in GE and the larger business community, trade associations, think tanks, and other stakeholders.

Orit organized numerous multi-day training programs for foreign government and private sector officials that GE hosted in the U.S., educating officials on U.S. government relations, investment regulations as well as specific issues, such as energy and digital policy.

She began her career working in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative where she was the Director for Trade in High Technology Products and Deputy Director for Trade with Japan, and spent a 9-month detail working for Congressman Lee Hamilton.

She is the author of several articles on trade policy issues, as well as a book on the negotiation of the US-Israel Free Trade Area. She is on the board of numerous trade associations and advisory panels.

Ms. Frenkel received a B.A. in Economics from University of Maryland (Phi Beta Kappa), an M.P.P. from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D.in International Economics from John Hopkins University.

 

Richard Harrington, Senior Counselor , Former UK Government Minister, APCO Worldwide

Richard Harrington, member of APCO’s International Advisory Council, is a former Member of the UK Parliament from Watford, where he served from 2010-2019. In Parliament he served as UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy from June 2017 to March 2019 and as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions.

Mr. Harrington also served on the International Development Select Committee, having travelled extensively in Africa and India, and was PM David Cameron’s Apprenticeship Adviser at No 10 Downing Street. He was also Minister for Refugees, Pensions Minister and Business Minister, where he was responsible for the Governments Industrial Strategy, which included the automotive, automobile, life sciences, creative industries, chemical, hospitality and professional service sectors.

Additionally, Mr. Harrington has spent 30 years of his life in business after graduating from Oxford University. His interests included being a director and part owner of businesses in the real estate, hotels, leisure and wealth management sectors.

 

Dan Meyers, Senior Director, APCO Worldwide

Dan Meyers is a senior director and head of advocacy for APCO Worldwide’s Washington-based public affairs practice. He is former Republican political operative and White House representative and specializes in public affairs and policy advocacy.

Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Meyers spent nearly 10 years with DCI Group, an independent public affairs firm specializing in issue advocacy and strategic communications. As vice president, Mr. Meyers managed full-scale federal, state and local campaigns, overseeing strategy, messaging, field operations, finance and compliance, online operations and paid media advertising. During his time with the firm, he also managed external consultants and served as the client relationship lead for several accounts.

Before joining the private sector, Mr. Meyers’ experience included serving as a press advance representative for the White House during the Bush Administration, a special assistant to the political director of the Republican National Committee during the 2006 midterm elections, and a special assistant and personal aide for Rudy Giuliani’s 2008 presidential bid.

Mr. Meyers holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Capital University in Ohio and an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.

Emanuel Adam, Executive Director London, BritishAmerican Business

Emanuel Adam is Executive Director of BritishAmerican Business in London. He is also Director of Policy & Trade at BritishAmerican Business (BAB) with its presence in the UK and the US, and oversees the policy & trade support for the chapters of the British-American Business Council (BABC) across the UK and the US.

In his role as Executive Director, Emanuel oversees the day to day operations of the London office including Membership and Events. In his role as Director of Policy & Trade, Emanuel is responsible for the development and execution of the organisation’s policy advocacy and trade & investment portfolio. He represents leading transatlantic businesses with Governments in the US and the UK.

Emanuel’s work is regularly featured and quoted on matters relating to trade and investment. He has been widely recognized for his trade outreach campaign work on transatlantic trade and investment.

Before assuming his current position, Emanuel worked at BritishAmerican Business as Analyst, Policy and Public Affairs Manager and Head of Policy & Trade. Prior to joining BAB, Emanuel was a Policy Advisor at the Trans-Atlantic Business Council (TABC) and EU Administrator at the former TransAtlantic Business Dialogue (TABD), in Brussels.

Emanuel holds a MA in Public Policy and Administration from University of Potsdam, Germany; further academic institutions he studied at include the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany; Sciences at Sciences Po Paris, France, and Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, US. Emanuel is an Alumni of the Foundation of German Business (SDW) and the Fulbright Commission.

Emanuel is a German-born national, fluent in German, English and French.
