BAB Accelerate: Transatlantic Diets - Taking Ketogenic Food to the U.S.

For founders of start-ups and SME companies who are growing – or planning to grow – their transatlantic trade, our Accelerate Roundtables create a unique peer-led conversation around relevant case study remarks with the help of Alex Chisnell and Hannah Sutter, Natural Ketosis.

At this roundtable we will hear about the real-time challenges Natural Ketosis faces when expanding into the US market.

Natural Ketosis is the trading name of one of our companies that sells specialist keto food. Their food is perfectly designed for export as it has a long ambient shelf life and currently sells a limited range of goods into the USA.

Natural Ketosis have been selling into the USA for just over a year and are expanding slowly. They have experienced numerous issues with the current US barriers yet have also found many attractive features of the US market which the EU does not offer. They will discuss the limitations they have experienced due to the various constraints on the entry of different foods into the USA.

This Roundtable Discussion is for founders and CEOs of SME companies who are accelerating or planning to accelerate transatlantic trade through acquisition.

Hannah Sutter, Natural Ketosis

I’m Hannah. In 2007, at the age of 46 and with two teenagers, I gave up an established career as a lawyer to set up Go Lower Foods. It was a gamble but also the start of an incredible journey. I am passionate about helping others discover a healthy, real food diet based on science that allows rapid, sustainable weight loss.

Discussing the current obesity crisis with a consultant cardiologist friend, I discovered I had little idea of how the basic bio-chemistry of the human body actually works. As he explained, our bodies are incapable of storing fat without insulin. As foods high in starch and sugar raise insulin levels, they cause rapid weight gain and these are the exact foods easily available and powerfully marketed in society today.

Surely it couldn’t be so obvious? Like a typical lawyer, I started to research, reading the latest scientific papers, attending conferences, arguing my case. The evidence began to pile up. So I put my theory on the line and altered my own diet. I cut out starch and sugar, practising a very natural and intuitive way of eating based on our hunter-gatherer origins.

It not only worked; it was sustainable. And, incredibly, I couldn’t find anyone offering such an effective scientifically proven solution to weight loss and healthy eating.
