Following media reports that the final decision about Heathrow Airport expansion may be delayed for another 6 months, BritishAmerican Business calls for clear and firm commitment to implement the recommendations of the Airports Commission’s Final Report to resolve the lack of the required additional airport capacity in the UK.
Jeffries Briginshaw, CEO of BritishAmerican Business (BAB) said “The Airports Commission’s final report released on 1 July 2015 was a commitment to a competitive and prosperous UK economy. We believe there is a real potential to increase flight capacity at Heathrow so we can continue to grow our transatlantic economic trade and investment links.
Any further delay in the implementation of the Airports Commission’s recommendation will make the UK fall further behind other major global destinations in terms of its ability to provide the global connections needed. It is time for a clear commitment from UK government that the gap of additional airport capacity in the UK will be closed.”
BritishAmerican Business has long advocated a solution that can deliver direct connectivity – both domestically and internationally – in one place. With its recommendation to build a new northwest runway at Heathrow Airport, the Airports Commission has confirmed BAB’s position that only Heathrow can provide a network of connections, both long-haul and short-haul, offering a ‘double connectivity’ important to British-American businesses trade and investment.
