LONDON, 19 February 2016
Jeffries Briginshaw, CEO of BritishAmerican Business said: “We welcome today’s announcement from the European Council that an agreement has been reached on the UK’s re-negotiation of EU membership.
It is in the nature of business to examine facts and understand risk in order to ensure growth and innovation. We are hopeful that the outcome of the negotiation and the planned referendum in June will end the uncertainties that many of our members currently have in regards to the UK’s position towards the EU.
As part of the transatlantic business community our members want to be connected to a business and innovation friendly EU, with the UK at the top table. The access to the European Single Market is an important extension of the successful UK-US economic relationship, benefitting UK-based businesses, consumers and workers alike.
We think that with its consistent and committed advocacy of open markets, the UK should strengthen its competitive advantage by continuing to take a leading role in reshaping the EU to focus on trade, jobs, growth and prosperity.
Over the coming months, in the lead up to the referendum, we look forward to engaging in the debate as a voice of and for transatlantic business.”
