LONDON (2015) – “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” are two of the most well-known phrases from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s much loved book, The Montagu at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill will offer a truly Mad Hatter experience from 15 June to 8 September 2015.
Guests entering The Montagu on 15 June are likely to proclaim, “Dear, Dear! How queer everything is today! And yesterday things went on just as usual.” To celebrate the novel’s special anniversary as well as the start of Royal Ascot, the vibrant restaurant will be decorated with more than 20 outstanding hats from Lomax & Skinner, who will also be “artists-in-residence” from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on 15 June, allowing guests to meet the milliners and watch them putting the finishing touches on their outstanding pieces.
While admiring the collection, guests will also be able to enjoy a special Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea filled with “curiouser and curiouser” treats, including many “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” options. Once a week, one lucky guest will also find a small golden key hidden in their tea set, indicating that he or she has won the chance to experience The Montagu’s Saturday New York Italian Style Brunch for two; while once a month, one lucky winner will have the chance to win an ‘Explore London’ overnight stay.
The Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea will include a whimsical selection of sweet “Eat Me” treats, including “Mad Hatter’s” vanilla and strawberry hats, “Queen of Hearts” jam tarts, “I’m Late” golden macaroons, “Cheeky Cheshire Cat” strawberry chocolate cream, “Magical Mushroom” marshmallows and “Tea Party” Earl Grey-chocolate teacup. The Montagu will also offer a “Drink Me” raspberry-elderflower sparkling tonic, “Mock Turtle” cucumber-gazpacho soup and a wide selection of afternoon teas. Those looking for savoury options will be able to enjoy “Rabbit Hole” ham hock-tomato cones, “Ah, My Dear!” dressed crab sandwiches, “We’re All Mad Here” swirly salmon rolls and “Frog Footman” asparagus quiches. Should they wish, adults will be able to enhance the experience with a special “Drink Me” cocktail created by the talented team at The Churchill Bar & Terrace.
“The Queen of Hearts, she made some tarts, all on a summer day: The knave of Hearts, he stole those tarts, and took them quietly away.” Guests of The Montagu will not have to worry that the queen will bellow “Off with their heads!” should they try to take their tarts away. Those unable to finish all of their tasty treats will be welcome to take them home.
The Montagu’s Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea will be available from 15 June to 8 September, from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday. The Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea is priced at £38 per adult and children under 12 years of age will receive a 50% discount. Should adults wish to enhance their tea with the special “Drink Me” cocktail the cost will be £45 per person. Prices include VAT.
