Fireside Chat with Scott Kirby, CEO, United Airlines

BritishAmerican Business looks forward to welcoming Scott Kirby, Chief Executive Officer, United Airlines, for a live conversation with BAB CEO, Duncan Edwards. In this informal discussion, Scott will share his story of transitioning from the role of President of United Airlines to CEO in 2020, including his leadership insights gleaned from helming the company during a prolonged global crisis.

Scott will also share more about United Airline’s efforts to promote customer health and safety throughout the travel experience and his commitment to going 100% green by 2050.

Scott served as the company’s president from 2016 to 2020 and was responsible for United’s operations, marketing, sales, alliances, network planning and revenue management. As president, he played a pivotal role in enabling United’s cultural transformation and executing the company’s strategic growth plan.

Prior to joining United, Scott was president of American Airlines from 2013 to 2016 and president of US Airways from 2006 to 2013. He is a well-known industry veteran, with a broad and accomplished three-decade-long career in significant leadership roles within the airline industry. Scott started his career at the Pentagon and in the technology sector.

Scott has bachelor’s degrees in computer science and operations research from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Master of Science in operations research from George Washington University. He is married and has six children.

Duncan Edwards is the chief executive of BritishAmerican Business, the leading transatlantic trade organization of some 450 companies, which has an ongoing mission to support policies which protect and enhance the environment for trade and investment in, and between, the USA and the UK.  He is a regular contributor to policy debates and is a frequent media commentator on US UK relations.

Prior to this, Duncan Edwards spent over 30 years as a media executive in London and New York of which 27 years were spent at the Hearst Corporation.  His most recent role at Hearst was president and ceo of the international magazine and digital media company, a business with activities in more than 60 countries which he led to record levels through acquisition and organic growth.

A British citizen, he currently lives in New York and Connecticut where he can often be found on long runs in the hills.
