The International Relations and Defence Committee undertook an inquiry into the UK’s future relationship with the US. This was an opportunity to evaluate the current state of the transatlantic relationship and make evidence-based recommendations to the UK government about how the relationship can be strengthened whilst simultaneously ensuring it continues to safeguard UK interests in the years ahead. The three areas of interest consisted of: 1) assessing the special relationship; 2) economic relationship; and 3) bilateral relationship and wider international engagement.
BAB submitted evidence to the Committee’s inquiry, highlighting the enduring strength and strategic importance of the UK-US ‘special relationship’. The submission underscored the deep historical, cultural, and institutional ties underpinning the transatlantic partnership, and emphasised the balanced and resilient nature of the economic relationship. It addressed current geopolitical challenges, including the implications of a second Trump presidency, and identified key opportunities for future cooperation in areas such as technology, defence, and trade.
BAB called for a renewed focus on a UK-US trade deal, deeper collaboration on emerging technologies, and continued alignment on global security issues. The submission also highlighted BAB’s role in supporting UK policy through industry insight and engagement. The committee published our submission here.
