British American Finance Alliance: Finance for Growth: A shared U.S.-UK prosperity agenda

The British American Finance Alliance (BAFA) has released a new paper calling on governments in the United Kingdom and the United States to accelerate regulatory cooperation. Strengthening collaboration across the Atlantic, the paper argues, could unlock substantial economic benefits — including job creation, consumer savings, business expansion, and greater innovation.

The publication highlights the pivotal role that financial and related professional services play in driving growth on both sides of the Atlantic and advancing wider strategic objectives. To fully realise this potential, BAFA stresses the need for deeper bilateral regulatory coordination to improve policy alignment and ensure that regulatory frameworks actively support transatlantic investment and employment.

BAFA plays a key role in helping policymakers and regulators achieve this alignment. With the recent launch of the UK-US Transatlantic Taskforce for Future Markets, designed to enhance cooperation between the two nations, BAFA urges governments to ensure regular engagement with — and meaningful input from — industry stakeholders.

Comprising more than 20 member organisations representing the U.S. and UK financial and related professional services sectors, including BritishAmerican Business (BAB), BAFA is jointly chaired by Chris Hayward, Deputy Chair of TheCityUK Board and Policy Chairman at the City of London Corporation (CoLC), and Ken Bentsen, CEO and President of the Securities and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Launched in October 2020, the Alliance was created to promote a shared business vision for U.S.-UK regulatory cooperation and dialogue. It supports the U.S.-UK Financial Regulatory Working Group (FRWG) — a forum bringing together both nations’ Treasury departments and independent regulatory authorities — to deepen cooperation and strengthen financial stability, investor protection, market integrity, and capital formation across both jurisdictions.
