Commenting on the news that President Trump has signed an Executive Order on the US-UK trade deal, BritishAmerican Business CEO Duncan Edwards said:

“This takes part of the US-UK deal from a framework to a legally binding agreement that will deliver some real and immediate benefits for transatlantic businesses.

“Tariff relief on UK car exports, down from 27.5 per cent to 10 per cent, for up to 100,000 units, from the end of June, will be welcomed by the automotive sector. Aerospace firms will also benefit from the removal of duties on jet engine parts.

“But challenges remain. Steel and aluminium exports are still subject to 25 per cent tariffs, and most UK goods continue to face a 10 per cent baseline tariff that didn’t exist before ‘Liberation Day.’  We urge both governments to go further and to extend tariff relief to more sectors.

“Importantly, BritishAmerican Business would like to see both governments develop the Economic Prosperity Deal, the most promising part of the May 8 announcement, which has the potential to deliver the broader, more ambitious UK-US trade relationship that transatlantic firms want.”
