BritishAmerican Business (BAB) welcomes the announcements from the US Treasury and the US Senate Committee on Finance calling on Congress to  remove Section 899 from the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), a provision that had caused concern for many UK companies doing business in the US.

BAB has advocated against the inclusion of Section 899, most recently through a formal letter to the Senate Finance Committee earlier this month. The letter, sent to Senators Crapo and Wyden, highlighted the concerns of many transatlantic firms regarding the potential economic impact of the proposed tax reforms. We are pleased these views have been heard.

Section 899 proposed retaliatory tax measures targeting countries seen as discriminating against US firms. The provision risked raising costs for UK companies and discouraging investment in the US.
