International Widows Day provides an opportunity to celebrate widows, their strengths, abilities and endless resilience. Despite the challenges they encounter, widows possess an innate ability to overcome obstacles and thrive. With the necessary support, resources and opportunities, they have the potential to accomplish anything they set their minds to.
Their courage and tenacity inspire us all to recognize and celebrate their achievements, highlighting the limitless potential within each widow.
Therefore, today we would like to celebrate widows in grand fashion!
Mayor Eric Adams, of NYC, Celebrates International Widows Day with GFW
To commemorate such a date, Mr Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City has provided us with a Mayoral Commendation. The letter expresses the critical need to take action and address the multifaceted array of challenges that widows face globally.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, of the District of Columbia, Celebrates International Widows Day with GFW
In addition, Madam Muriel Bowser, the mayor of the District of Columbia has also provided us with a Mayoral Commendation to celebrate widows and help raise awareness on the realities that millions of them face globally.

The African Union Commemorates International Widows' Day on June 23
On June 23rd, the African Union (AU) paused to commemorate International Widows’ Day. “The African Union recognizes the challenges confronting African widows and their families. It is also committed to working with partners such as GFW to improve their lives meaningfully financially, socially, and emotionally.”
