We’ve Been Underestimating Discrimination: New methods of measuring racism and sexism find a larger, systemic impact.

While social scientists have been studying systematic discrimination since 1950, many of their approaches are deemed narrow. New approaches to measuring discrimination that take systemic factors into account are necessary so that quantitative data can create a more equitable system.

In this study, Chicago Booth Review focuses on the complex relationship between identity, opportunity, and systemic discrimination. It examines how traditional measures of discrimination, often used in economics, might miss the bigger picture.

The Jets and Bears NFL Girls Flag Football league

This International Women’s Day, the New York Jets and the Chicago Bears have announced the expansion of the Jets and Bears NFL Girls Flag Football league, the first UK all-girls competition of its kind. 

Over 200 girls from 21 participating schools kicked off the league with a unique NFL Flag football experience at the Cherry Red Records Stadium in Southwest London, home to AFC Wimbledon. The league returns following a successful inaugural season in 2023 based in the London borough of Ealing, with participation numbers more than doubling from 120 to 260 and now including multiple London boroughs.

Equally Effective, Unequally Represented: Why Is The Leadership Gender Gap Still So Large?

While it’s been well-studied that diverse teams are more resilient, innovative, and experience better financial performance, there are still significant gaps between women’s and men’s representation at the leadership level.

Russell Reynolds Associates wanted to better understand the leadership capabilities and practices that impact this resiliency. Via their H1 2023 Global Leadership Monitor, which reaches 1,500+ leaders worldwide, they determined the five levers that differentiate resilient organizations from less resilient ones. After examining the differences between how men and women leaders were perceived on these levers by their direct reports, they found no significant perception differences between men and women leaders.

Global Fund for Widows Empowering Widows around the World

Global Fund for Widows (GFW) is the world’s largest nonprofit organization working to economically empower widows in

emerging markets. They work to economically and legally empower widows and their children, through the establishment of financially inclusive microbranks called the Widows’ Savings and Loan Association or WISALA. GFW is proud to have established nearly 216 WISALA microbanks around the world. During COVID-19 lockdowns, GFW served over 6.5 million meals to widows and their families.

Ultimately, their goal is to help widows achieve financial stability, self-sufficiency, and importantly, become role models within their families and community.
