Meet the Speaker:

Professor Jennifer Hillman

Co-Director, Centre for Transnational Legal Studies, Georgetown University Law Centre

Jennifer Hillman is a professor at Georgetown Law and is spending the 2025-2026 academic year in London, co-directing Georgetown’s Center for Transnational Legal Studies.  While at Georgetown, she teaches classes in international trade, investment, finance and development, and serves as a co-director of Georgetown’s Institute of International Economic Law, and the co-founder of its Center on Inclusive Trade and Development.  She is also a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.  Her work has focused on the rules-based trading system and its implications for everything from tariffs, to climate change, to Brexit, to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, to reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO). She previously served on the WTO’s Appellate Body, as a commissioner at the U.S. International Trade Commission and as both general counsel and chief textiles negotiator at the Office of the United States Trade Representative. She began her public service serving as the legislative director for United States Senator Terry Sanford of North Carolina. She also did stints in private practice at Cassidy Levy Kent and Squire Patton Boggs. Hillman received a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and a masters of education from Duke University, and a law degree from the Harvard Law School.
