Susan Meng
Partner, Debevoise & Plimpton

Sue Meng is a corporate partner and member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Technology, Media & Telecommunications and Private Equity Groups. Ms. Meng is Co-Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Her practice focuses on advising public companies, boards of directors and special committees, and private equity firms in connection with mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments and other significant corporate matters.

Ms. Meng was selected Dealmaker of the Year by The American Lawyer (2020) for her representation of Toyota Motor Corporation in its joint investment, with DENSO Corporation and SoftBank Vision Fund, in Uber’s Advanced Technologies Group. She was also named TMT Dealmaker of the Year by The Deal (2020). Ms. Meng is ranked as a leading M&A lawyer by Chambers USA (2020), where clients say Ms. Meng is “one of the most talented lawyers [they] have ever worked with” and that they “highly value her creativity.” She is described as “brilliant,” “hard-working” and “simply a good person,” with one client adding that “her around-the-clock availability, straightforward communication style, and approachability on complex topics often made me forget that she was working for an external law firm and not part of our internal team.” Ms. Meng was named a Rising Star in M&A by Law360 (2018), awarded to lawyers under the age of 40 “whose legal accomplishments transcend their age.” She is also recognized as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500 US (2020) and was named to Crain’s New York Business’s 2020 list of “Notable Women in Law.”

Ms. Meng joined Debevoise in 2010. Ms. Meng received a J.D. from Yale Law School in 2010, where she was a Coker Fellow and an editor of the Yale Journal of International Law. While at Yale, Ms. Meng was a recipient of a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans.

Ms. Meng received an M.St. with distinction in English Literature and an M.Phil. with distinction in Modern Chinese Studies from Oxford University, which she attended as a Rhodes Scholar. She received an A.B. magna cum laude with highest honors from Harvard University. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Ms. Meng serves as Executive Vice President & Secretary on the Board of Trustees of Prep for Prep. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of The Brearley School. Ms. Meng has served on the selection committees for the Rhodes Scholarship, Soros Fellowship and Schwarzman Scholarship. Ms. Meng has been published in The Washington Post and The Harvard Review. Ms. Meng is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
