Finding Unexpected Value and Community: My Experience with the BritishAmerican Business

Almost two years ago, I joined the New York Chapter of BritishAmerican Business (BAB). At the time, I was eager to share the mission of UWS USA, a small nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that children in remote and marginalized communities across Cambodia, Madagascar, Myanmar, and Nepal can reach their full potential through education. I hoped the membership would help me connect with others who care about creating opportunity through education.

What I did not anticipate was how much it would offer. It has provided not only meaningful networking opportunities but also valuable insights, lasting relationships, and a profound sense of community, all supported by the brilliant BAB team.

One of the most impactful aspects of my BAB experience has been access to high-level conversations that align with the interests of UWS USA’s supporters. BAB events consistently feature thought leaders who explore emerging issues in business, policy, and social change. These topics resonate deeply with our donors and have helped me engage with them in a more informed and relevant way, while also giving me greater confidence in conversations beyond the nonprofit sector.

Equally transformative have been the people I have met. The caliber of professionals at BAB events is exceptional, but what truly stands out is the collaborative spirit in the room. Through BAB, I connected with Tea & Sympathy, and that introduction forged a meaningful partnership. What began as a casual conversation about the barriers girls face in accessing education evolved into Tea & Sympathy co‑hosting a fundraising event in support of UWS’s Hands Up for Girls initiative. They not only provided wonderful food and tea but also brought their network of colleagues and clients, amplifying both our reach and our impact.
